Gear puzzle

GANG

“Place the gears. The motor runs. Every dial turns right.”

A small board holds motors and dials. Every dial wants to turn its own way at its own speed, say four times as fast as the motor. Between them you set gears, belts and summing gears from a box with an exact count of each. The train turns at once, and the level is solved only when every dial turns right and nothing jams.

The trailer shows real levels, solved by the game’s own rules, and the game’s own music.

How it works

Set, turn, match the dials

  1. Set

Pick a part from the box and tap a free cell. Tap again to turn a belt or a summing gear, a long press takes a part away.

  2. Work it out

A small gear at a large motor turns three times as fast, a large one at a small motor a third as fast. A belt keeps the direction, a crossed belt turns it round.

  3. Match the dials

A dial that turns right gets a green ring, and below the board it says what is still in the way. The fewest parts earn three stars.

  • 14 worlds, from the first gear through belts, crossed belts and two motors to the clock tower.
  • Gears drawn to scale: small meshes with large, medium with medium, bigger pairs jam.
  • A summing gear adds two speeds: 3 + 1 = 4, and against each other they subtract.
  • A proven best score for every level: the fewest parts earn three stars.
  • No luck, no time pressure: what you set turns exactly like that, every time.
